Polished Blue and White

It’s been a busy week with several meetings.  I had a few of my favorite blazers and jeans on rotation.  For this look I kept it simple with blue and white and fun accessories like this clutch and these sandals.  Soon I will be trading this look for beach coverups (like this one and this one I have ready to go), swimsuits and the bag I featured earlier this week here.

Beach Ready

We are in the final week of school, but I am ready to report to the beach for summer duty.  I picked up this perfect, lightweight tote last weekend at Barneys and had it customized at thedropLA.  I’ve had my eye on it for a while and I had a reward card burning a hole in my pocket.  The tote is perfect for summer along with my new “jelly” sandals (they are under $50!).  I love the cork detail.  I added stripes, white denim, new favorite sunglasses and I am summer and beach ready.

Designer Sale Picks

Now is the time to snap up some great designer bargains.  Since my shopping detox, I have remained clear about only buying things I love.  This is a collection of things I loved at full price, so it’s a bonus that they are now on sale (and thus closer to being affordable).

At the end of last summer I splurged on an Antonello Tedde clutch (with a handy hidden shoulder strap so that balancing a drink and an hors d’oeuvre is possible).  It is one of my all-time favorites.

Moda Operandi has a great selection of Antonello Tedde bags on sale.  A few of my picks are this tote, this clutch, this pouch and this tote.  They are all beautiful and so easy to wear.  You really can’t go wrong with any of them.

MyTheresa is having a great sale right now.  It’s a great time to scoop up a statement bag or a pair of great shoes (like the ever popular Golden Goose kicks). Here are my picks from the sale:

Golden Goose Kicks (also love this light blue)

Isabel Marant Blouse White (also in red and black)

Bottega Veneta Pink Crossbody (also this darker pink)

Balenciaga Striped Bag

Chloe Flats (also in red)

Prada Raffia Bag

Valentino Sandals (also with a heel here)

Isabel Marant Striped Top

Shibori

I know we have to wait until June 21st for it to be officially summer, but Memorial Day marks the unofficial start.  I’m getting ready with easy summer dressing.  This shibori t-shirt (from a few years ago – I have linked some great options below) paired with one of my favorite clutches (that doubles as a cross-body or shoulder bag with a hidden strap), white denim and sandals.  It’s a casual look that still looks polished.  Now if only the sun were shining in Southern California it would actually feel like summer.

Oui to Detox, Non to Shopping

It’s time for a change.  And a detox.  As 2017 comes to a close and I write my last post of the year, my thoughts turn to 2018.  I am reviewing my goals and setting new ones.  Last year I quietly set out to improve my diet and only wrote about it after the fact. I was not sure I could actually give up dairy, sugar, grains etc. I proved that I could and that it had the longer-term value of changing my taste buds.  This year I am considering a different type of detox challenge.  A friend talked about a 28-day shopping challenge and my ears perked up.  Obviously, I love shopping and clothes. But, I also love dairy and grains.  So, I’m going to begin 2018 by challenging myself to NO BUYING for 28 days.  I am defining it loosely to include clothing, cosmetics and any non-essential items. Just like not having sugar for a period of time changed the way I crave it, I want to see what it’s like to just not buy anything.  I have cleaned out my closet with feng shui (this is a great book for that) and started the Kondo method many times.  That process does make you think about purchases differently and instead of just an impulse buy, I consider the life of the item.  I seek to reinforce that idea over the next 28 days.

I will clean out my closet (before and after photos to come) and also shop my closet. I expect to find things I have forgotten.  I will still be blogging and featuring outfits that I curate from my current inventory.  Full disclosure, Santa was good to me and I have picked up a few new things at end of the year sales, so there will be some new items featured.

This look includes a sweatshirt that my son surprised me with (and I love that it is yes and no!), my leopard coat (thankfully it has been just chilly enough to wear it in Los Angeles in the morning and evening), a new favorite clutch that I found under the tree, denim and my plaid shoes (see you can wear them after the holidays!).

Stay tuned – I hope the initial detox is not too rough. I wish you success in all of your January resolutions.

Ace is the Place

“Ace is the place with the helpful hardware man”.  Some jingles from my childhood will never leave my memory.  This Ace Hardware, Hillcrest Hardware in the Hillcrest section of San Diego, is the place with so much style.  I have never seen such a well curated collection of housewares, hardware, cards, gifts and so many things I did not even know I needed until visiting.

I bought several stocking stuffers for my husband and picked up a few ornaments before Christmas.  If you are in San Diego, it is worth a visit.

For the outing I styled a plaid shirt with a favorite new jacket from the Gap, denim, tweed shoes and my Moynat tote.

Thank You Jenna

When I started my blog almost a year ago I featured a lot of J. Crew because it was what was in my closet.  The initial inspiration for even making my Instagram public six months before was the shinyponies contest.  I feature other brands here and there, but it was the J. Crew fan community and Jenna Lyons herself that kept me going.

Thank you Jenna

Thank you for validating my obsession with leopard print.  I have always loved it.  You made it more accessible.   I have been calling it a neutral since I can remember.

Thank you for making the high/low mix so cool.

Thank you for living your life on your own terms (in the public eye).

Thank you for teaching us how to cuff a sleeve (even if I don’t quite have it).

Thank you for embracing the imperfect and making things interesting.

Thank you for the pattern mix.

Thank you for being a role model for young women, young men, boys and girls.

Thank you for showing us that any look can be pulled off with the right amount of confidence.

I look forward to your next act.  Please keep sharing your style and inspiring us all.

XO,

JAE
