These navy and rose gold sneakers have quickly become my go to sneaker. When I saw this embroidered cardigan in navy and rose gold I knew it was a must have. The two made an easy outfit on a foggy Pebble Beach morning during my Northern California adventures with my son.

This jacket had the perfect pop of polish to take my jeans and gingham out to dinner. We dined at my old favorite Nob Hill Cafe on my last night in San Francisco. The Tweed Lady jacket with ties was also at home in a Carmel garden earlier that week. It a great piece for fall in my favorite navy with pops of pink.

“Welcome to your life, there’s no turning back”, was one of my favorite lines from “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears from the Songs from the Big Chair album. My recent return to the Monterey Peninsula brought back all those memories. XM radio 80s on 8 has made my seven year old a fan of the music at least. He smiled when the cover band at the Tonga Room played it on our last night in San Francisco.
This preppy look is not much different from what I would have worn in high school other than I’m sure I was more hesitant to mix navy and black BACK THEN.

Growing up on the Monterey Peninsula I longed for a more urban life. My dream was to live in New York or San Francisco and I did live in both places as an adult. It was hard to appreciate the relaxed lifestyle and natural beauty as a teenager. I also hated the fog and lack of “summer”. Visiting mid summer this year was refreshing for a week. It was nice to break out a sweatshirt and bring a little New York to Pebble Beach. This sweatshirt has quickly become a favorite. The sleeves are a little shorter which allows for cuffs and bracelets.

“You have to keep it”, said the VPS when I tried to return this sweatshirt to J. Crew. I had gone on a bit of spree and was editing my choices. It it sold out soon after and I ended up wearing it a lot (and I am still wearing it several years later). There is nothing better than a well worn and loved item of clothing. There is another sweatshirt (linked below) that I picked up in Carmel and have already worn on repeat. I will feature it in Fridays’ post. I styled this one with tweed mules, denim and a button down.

There are a couple of things besides my regular mediation practice that bring me instant calm and grounding. The first is a good blow dry. When my hair is in place everything around me can be in chaos and I definitely handle it better. The second is an iced latte with homemade almond milk. I was recently in San Diego for a few days of fun with a childhood friend. While it was a great visit, I have been traveling a lot lately and I definitely needed help with grounding. I made regular visits to my favorite Lofty Coffee for their delicious almond milk iced latte as well their perfectly cooked eggs and avocado. “Pack like it’s winter” I told my Los Angeles based travel mates for our week on the Monterey Peninsula. When I lived in New York City and traveled home in the summer I had to remind myself of the fog and cold despite having grown up there.
The weather was a refreshing change and a chance to start wearing a few of the recent fall items from J.Crew. I love this camo sweater and it’s the perfect weight for late summer and into fall. I styled it with a gingham shirt, navy denim and pops of pink with my shoes and sunglasses.
The fog lifted our second day and we had a sunny afternoon at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was fun to see it through my seven year old’s eyes. I vividly remember when it opened when I was in high school and I even had a chance to work there one summer during college.

My son and I kicked off our twelve day mother and son road trip with a week in my old stomping grounds, the Monterey Peninsula. He attended camp with a few of his school friends and it was so fun to bring him back to where I grew up. A childhood friend showed me Earthbound Farms the first day and got me hooked on her favorite fresh pressed green juice (kale, spinach, parsley, cucumber). It became my daily afternoon pick me up and I have now found it at home in Los Angeles. She was happy to oblige and be my photographer in this beautiful setting.
I styled a new favorite tee with my vintage cropped jeans, gingham cardigan, sunglasses, leopard print pouch and my brand new navy and rose gold kicks.
