I finally gave in. I was visiting my parents this past weekend and they needed help with their tree. I sent my husband a photo of my son and I working on the tree and when we got home he had gotten all of our holiday stuff out. So I did not one, but two trees this weekend. The house feels so cozy and it is nice feeling like I am ahead of the game, at least for now. It’s only a matter of time before we start listening to the holiday station on sirius/xm.
I’m holding out on holiday themed manis for a a little longer. This week I went with a light pink and red dot. I thought it would coordinate with all the plaid starting to make the scene.
The manicure and nail art are by Olive & June. The color is “Dress is More” by Essie Gel Couture. This polish has gel wear-ability while still being regular polish. It is finished by this topcoat.

“Look they replaced Billy Joel with a Holiday channel” said my seven year old from the back seat. “I am not ready for that. We can start listening to it after Thanksgiving. How about 80s on 8?” I replied. Then we went to Target and I could not help picking up this fair isle dog bed they have it in my favorite plaid too. I came home and ordered matching monogrammed Santa pajamas for everyone (adult and kids sizes). The whole family will be ready for Santa in terms of sleep.
I have not put on the holiday music just yet. I am planning my holiday manis, but I am definitely not going to start them until December (O.K. maybe right after Thanksgiving). This week’s mani is a nod to fall and also the warm weather we have been having in Los Angeles. It actually finally cooled to below seventy degrees today.

The heat in Southern California has brought out a little whining in me about the lack of fall weather. I recently heard someone say that they did not understand how people could complain about the heat, when we really have endless summer. It was an ah-ha moment for me and a reminder that I was not enjoying the present. I love warm weather. I decided to embrace that extension of summer but also decided it was time for a fall mani. So I went from whine to wine. I love this burgundy color and added a little abstract plaid with two more colors and some negative space. Looking down at my fall nails even in ninety degree heat makes me smile and welcome fall.

Tall stems and long days – it’s Summer! Sunflowers scream summer to me with their bright yellow and stems that seem to grow forever. I am enjoying the longer days even if it does seem to make it impossible for my seven year to go to sleep. He like, me wants to chase the light. We take a later walk and scooter ride with the dog stopping along the way to smell the flowers.

The stars were all out last night. Our family Oscar viewing party included a fort in the family room, and Postmates delivery of Bareburger (yum!). If you have not tried Postmates, it is amazing and with code ryi1k your first delivery is free.
We had a ballot contest. My son is seven and it was his first time participating. The only movie on the ballot he had seen was Zooptopia. He was asleep before it was over and he missed being the winner for a few minutes and then coming in second. He had picked “La La Land” for just about everything. Sadly, I came in last. At least I have stars on my nails to get me through the week.

This week I wanted something elegant and neutral with a pop of color. I went with nude and blue triangles on two nails on one hand and one on the other hand. I felt like a full set would just be too much.

It feels like Spring. At least in the stores and definitely this weekend in Los Angeles, actually make that Summer. Nothing screams Spring like flowers. The Michael De Feo for J. Crew collection of t-shirts give J. Crew‘s new roll a freshness that is irresistible. I featured all three t-shirts (the Painted Daisy Vase, Striped with Painted Flowers, and Painted Tulips) last week in Blooming in Blue. The collection inspired this week’s mani.
