Trifecta

This itsy bitsy daisy print is screaming for a pattern mix.  Enter my Antonello Tedde clutch and striped espadrilles and we have a perfect pattern trifecta.  If only I had gotten a trifecta while visiting Del Mar when I shot these photos.  For now, I will stick to pattern mixing and leave the gambling to others. Del Mar is a beautiful spot to watch the races.

Mani Monday – Polka Dot Edition

Life does not progress in a linear fashion. Some random polka dots on my blue mani was just what I needed to remind me of that. This manicure and its message is one of my favorites to date. There is something soothing about both the color, the polka dots — and the acceptance of life’s random progression.

The manicure and nail art are by Olive & June.  The color is “First View” by Essie Gel Couture.

Les Invalides

I have stayed in the 7th Arrondissement in Paris for four of my seven trips.  It’s my favorite spot in Paris (and now after his second visit, my husband’s too).  The summer evening light by Les Invalides was just perfect (at 9 pm!).  I pulled out some old favorites for the trip with my white denim skirt, popover and Antonello Tedde clutch.  I added some new espadrilles I picked up that were actually comfortable to change into after walking 8- 12 miles a day.  There are not many stripes I can resist.

Mani Monday – Cherries on Top Edition

“Mommy I don’t need a cherry on top of my sundae.  It’s sweet enough.” says my son as we order his dessert.  I sigh with relief, I am not crazy about the dye in the cherries.

“I prefer cherries on the pit, anyway.” he continues.  Another sigh of relief.  Most days I feel like he barely gets enough vegetables and has a few too many snacks of questionable nutritional value, but when he makes a choice like this on his own, I feel like we are doing OK.

The last thing I want to do is make some things more desirable my making then “off limits”.  Today I will celebrate my cherry victory.

Rediscovering Cork

Dear JAE,

Last summer you and I were inseparable.  Then that Antonello Tedde clutch came along and you stuffed me with tissue and put me on a shelf.  I see why you like the other clutch,  but I am the original neutral.  I go with everything and I hold your wallet, phone and big sunglasses.  Don’t let the season pass without taking me out for a spin.

Your sad and neglected clutch,

Cork

After my 100th time reading “The Day the Crayons Quit”  by Drew Daywalt to my son at bedtime, I step into my closet and find this note from my cork clutch.  I am so happy to rediscover an old favorite and start planning outfits.  It is true that my Antonello Tedde clutch has been in favored status and even got to travel to Paris, but my cork clutch is a versatile powerhouse.  I am considering a second Antonello Tedde in black and white.

I first styled the cork clutch with a new camo t-shirt (it’s under $20), white denim and these rose gold shoes.  This is truly a high/low outfit.  I love the soft green of the camo and the detail on the hem.

Next I took it for a spin with my new favorite shirt (I am likely to get notes from other shirts any day now).

Here is the clutch with my favorite new shirt the other night.  I love the shirt so much I am considering it in black as well.  These cork shoes are an older style, but I love these and these.

Happy Styling!

P.S. Don’t play favorites (I know it’s hard).

Mani Monday – A Touch of Pink Edition

“Allez les Bleus” was a tough act to follow.  I got so many compliments on last weeks’s mani.  If you follow me on Instagram, you know that we had a serious case of world cup fever in my house.  We had so much fun watching the game and enjoying a red, white and blue breakfast yesterday.

Then it was off to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  My son found some new kicks (not in the sale).  In case you missed my picks from the sale, they are here.  The last two years I have picked up the Tumi dopp kit for first my husband and then my son.  As I packed my family for Paris this year, I realized I could use one.  It’s in a cool blue this year and I highly recommend it for travel.  My husband has his eye on this jacket.

I think this top and this top add a fun pop of color.

This week I went from blue to pink for a change of pace.  I found the cutest bag I may need to scoop up for an upcoming vacation.

The manicure and nail art are by Olive & June.  The color is “Haute to Trot” by Essie Gel Couture.

Items in the photos include:

Striped Dress

Geometric Mini Skirt (on sale!)

Striped Dress

Rainbow Maxi Dress

Clutch

Elephant Coin Purse

Tweed Skirt

Floral Slip Dress

Camo Denim Jacket (also in Leopard)

Raffia Bag with Pink Fringe

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2018

“Mommy, these shoes are NOT your style!  They are boring!” says my son as I get ready to photograph my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale looks.  “Your shoes are always colorful and interesting.  Did you really buy two black and two tan shoes?  Are you feeling OK?” he continues.

“Yes, I did.  I see what you mean about my shoes, but my wardrobe is actually missing black and nude shoes.  There are times that I need them when the outfit has a lot going on.” I reply.

“OK, let’s see how they look.” he says with skepticism.

He smiles as he photographs each of the six looks.

I hit the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale early on the first day and tried on just about everything.  I culled these six looks.  I  have been working on cleaning out my closet (still), so I had a good idea of what I need and what I have plenty of (hello handbags!).  I styled these looks with my own bags, but if I was in the market, I would consider this tote in silver, this bag (that is perfect for my upcoming travels) , this leopard crossbody, the gorgeous yellow clutch, this travel-friendly navy camo backpack, and this tote.

There were a couple of things I ordered that were not available in my size including this sweater, this dress, this top and these jeans.  The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is always my annual opportunity to refresh and replenish basics.  I picked up this bra and I always stock up on these and added these to the mix.

I am considering this Boss suit.  The pants are a perfect fit and the jacket has a fun detail with two shades of blue.

Early Access started yesterday and runs through July 19th.  In order to take advantage of Early Access you need a Nordstrom Card, you can apply here. Regular Access begins on July 20th and runs through August 5th. Prices return to full price on August 6th.

Worth the Wait

“How much further is it?  It seems like we have gone in a circle.” sighs my husband as we walk.

I glance down at my phone and realize I asked for driving directions, not walking directions.  We have, in fact, made almost a complete circle.  Before he sees the metro station where we originally started  I say “Let me refresh the GPS.”

“How much further?” my son asks.

“Let’s stop for a minute and get a cold drink.” We duck into a cafe and order two iced teas and an Orangina.

As we cool off I say “It’s really close and I promise not to take too long.  I just really want to see it.”

“OK.”

“We can catch the metro back to the hotel without a transfer.  We will be back in no time.”

We set out again.  This time I am careful to click the walking icon.  We walk for a few minutes and I spot it on the corner.  There is a line to get in and a cute set up with water and coffee.  My husband spots the line and sighs loudly.  Luckily it only takes a few minutes.  My boys sit in the shoe area until a man comes over and invites them to go downstairs.  I look around and notice the line for the fitting room is long as is the check out.

A few minutes later I get a text from my husband “Take your time.  We have snacks.  There is a movie down here.” Whoever came up with the idea to have a “Cinema” in the basement was a genius.  Most of my shopping on this trip has been solo in the late afternoon when my boys have their required siesta, but now I don’t feel pressured and rushed.

I look at the blouses and spot one I love.  I ask for my size.  A few agonizing minutes later the sales lady returns. I caress it and I go to brace the dressing room line.  It is now much shorter.  I try it on. We are a match.  I happen to be wearing white denim; the blouse’s length and ecru color are perfect.

I text my husband to make sure they are still OK.  I get in line and debate whether or not to add a couple of clutches as well.  Just as I get to the cashier, my husband and son emerge from “the cinema” downstairs.

The lace top (which is now sold out – I have linked a few great options below) was worth the walk and the wait.  I was thrilled to check out Sezane at L’Appartement in Paris. My husband and son enjoyed their rest in the cinema. It was the perfect spot on our last day in Paris after logging well over 100k steps

For a recent lunch in La Jolla, I styled the top with white denim, my Ark bag, sunglasses and denim slides.
