Stripes and Paisley on the Vineyard

We just got back from our family vacation on the East Coast.  It was our second year staying on Martha’s Vineyard with my sister-in-law and niece.  My sister-in-law has a beautiful house on the island that is walking distance to one of the best restaurants, State Road.  My husband and I took a stroll there one evening for a drink and appetizer and snapped these photos.  I love this new cap-sleeve dress from J. Crew and my favorite Gemma flats in this neon paisley.  I continued the pop of pink with the belt and cardigan and then added a more tonal lucite necklace (which is such a great length).  If you have not checked out J. Crew’s sunglasses that launched this fall,  there are some great styles.

We had an amazing time with great beach days and East Coast vs. West Coast Monopoly games.  My son and I then spent three days exploring Boston.  It was the first time for both of us.  He is six and even managed to be my photographer one day.  Stay tuned for a kiddo photographed Boston outfit post and several others from Martha’s Vineyard.  The island is just magical and it is so great to have a week with our East Coast family.

Navy and Gold

I love navy and gold.  For a recent night out, I styled this dress as a tunic with legging jeans.  The AG Middi are a very comfortable legging with a mid-rise.  The dress is from last year, but I’ve linked one that is very similar here and below.

Ikat and About

There are so many pretty and inspiring walls in Venice.  My mom and I found a bunch of cool ones a few weeks ago.  I featured this J. Crew Ikat blouse in my Ikat in the Dining Room post.  I decided it needed to be shown outside with white denim.  These were such fun backdrops and I added a Parker Thatch sequined clutch.

Watermelon Sequins

Sequins at Legoland?  Why not?  I recently took my son to Legoland and this was my casual outfit.  I love this beaded (almost sequined) watermelon sleeveless tee.  My chambray shirt always comes in handy for extra sun protection and to help with changing temperatures.  I have several pairs of these New Balance for J. Crew sneakers.  They are the perfect way to be comfy, stylish and add a pop of color.

We Scream for Ice Cream

Los Angeles has so many great ice cream options.  We set out to try several new places and also review a few of our favorites.  We enjoy ice cream in the summer (really all year long).  My husband and son were more than willing to help me with research for this post.

Salt & Straw

Salt and Straw started in Portland,  Oregon.   They have three shops in Portland and three (soon to be four) in Los Angeles.  We visited the Venice location.  My boys are both vanilla fans and their Double Fold Vanilla did not disappoint.  I was more adventurous and tried the Birthday Cake and Blackberries, which was amazing.    Overall, we all really liked it.

Sprinkles Ice Cream

Sprinkles Ice Cream is from the creator of Sprinkles cupcakes.  You can even get a cupcake split in half with ice cream in the middle. Again my boys love vanilla and their vanilla bean was amazing.  I tried the lemon meringue and it was really good.

Magpie’s Soft Serve

Magpie’s Soft Serve was the only soft serve we found and it was amazing..  My son had sweet cream and my husband had vanilla latte.  They have interesting toppings.  They also offer two non-dairy almond milk flavors daily that we tried and really liked.

Rori’s Artisanal Creamery

My husband and I first discovered Rori’s on a weekend in Santa Barbara.  We were so excited when they came to Santa Monica.  My son actually enjoys  another flavor other than vanilla here – Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  They offer a kid’s happy hour everyday from 3 – 5 where you get a free scoop for a child with the purchase of a scoop for an adult.

 

Sweet Rose Creamery

Sweet Rose is our local favorite.  My son is on the wall in their instagram gallery.  The boys love their vanilla in a vanilla cone.  I am loving blueberry muffin which is a July flavor.  Get it while you can!

Home

At home we drink almond milk and do not have much dairy.  We really save it for ice cream out.  We have tried a few almond milk ice creams and New Barn vanilla almond creme is our favorite.  We also found these great gluten free cones.  New Barn has a few other flavors and I am a big fan of their almond milk for lattes.

Overall we really enjoyed all the ice cream and the research.

Mani Friday – Triangle Half Moon Edition

This week I was inspired by all the blues in my Shades of Blue post.  I have been wanting to try half moons for some time and decided to make them triangles in my favorite navy blue.

The color is a neutral favorite “Creekside” by CND Vinylux with “Buttoned Up” by Treat Collection.  The manicure and nail art are by Olive & June.
