Mani Monday – Happy Edition

My son and I visited The Happy Place in downtown Los Angeles this past weekend.  (To see highlights check out my Instagram stories.).  I had my emoji nail art done a couple of days before and each time I looked at it it made me smile.  A little extra smiling and happy is always a good thing.

The manicure and nail art are by Olive & June.  The color is “Picture Perfect” by Essie Gel Couture.

Items in the photos include:

Blue and Yellow Polka Dot Blouse

Striped Crocheted Dress

Whatever Striped Tee

Hip to be Square

I’ve driven by this wall in Los Angeles so many times by myself and thought it would be fun for an outfit post.  This past weekend, my son and husband were taking me to the shopping event at J. Crew and they both pointed to it as we drive by and said “that would make a great shoot”.  So we stopped and did a quick shoot in my event outfit (which included my favorite new shoes).  I styled them with my latest denim obsession, New York sweatshirt and a gingham button-down.

Thank you to all who came to the event.  Stay tuned for an evening event in the next month or so.

Gingham Ikat

Gingham Ikat?  Yes, please with a side of stripes.  A side of stripes always works in my book.  This side of stripes, in the form of a water-resistant bag, came in handy during this rainy day photo shoot.  I am thinking about summer days with it pool and beach side.

Peace, Love and a Bag that Does Good

A bag that is stylish and does good?  One of each, please.  GAIA (which refers to the Goddess of the Earth in Greek Mythology) was founded in 2009.  They create handcrafted accessories by female refugee artisans.  This gingham pom-pom bag was inspired by Moroccan pouches.  Each pom-pom is handmade.  It comes with a hand signed hang tag and is available in three colors.   I also picked up the pom-pom hair tie.  Check out the tassel earrings as well.  You can read about how Jenna Lyons first learned about GAIA and how the bags, hair ties and tassel earrings ended up in the in J. Crew stores here.  Check out all the GAIA for J. Crew offerings here.

I styled the bag with a dress that is the same cut as my favorite from last year with a lace -up neckline  instead of a collar.  Take a look at how I styled last year’s dresses in: Chambray, Sunset and Sequins, Coral and stripes, and One-Step Gingham.

Bohemian Prep

A love a good mix of classic preppy with a softer bohemian edge.  My new favorite Legend of Lido clutch has the perfect pop of pink with my pink gingham shirt.  I styled them with my new Vintage Crop jeans (I can not stop wearing them) and my hot pink driving shoes that I picked up in Antwerp in 2005 (that story here).

Heels, Fire and Love

This statement tee is not joking around.  I love the pop of red. It works perfectly with the Love Wall in Venice, CA.   I styled it with a neon pink featherweight cashmere sweater, watermelon pouch, Lookout high rise jeans, New Balance kicks and Ryan Sunglasses – all from J.Crew.

Painting Outside the Lines

My son and I often color together.  I enjoy it. I find it relaxing. I am quite orderly about it; I am a ‘draw inside the lines’ kinda gal. So, when J. Crew launched the limited edition paint splatter collection I was not sure it was for me.    While I fell in love with the jeans that I featured last week in The Maine Event;  they have quickly become one of my go-to favorites.  This striped shirt has also been a staple.  There is something very liberating about the paint splatter and it is a fun contrast to my more buttoned-up look.

I styled it with my J. Crew Lookout high-rise jeans, Prada driving shoes and Goyard bag.

You can see the whole J. Crew paint splatter collection here.  It is limited edition and only available online and in a smattering of select  stores.  The collection is worth a second look. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll even color outside of the lines….

Mad for Plaid

Plaid is on heavy rotation at this point and I love it.  I am wearing my J. Crew plaid pants from last year, but this year’s Martie Pant in Stewart Plaid are more comfortable and slightly more fitted.  I styled them with my new favorite tuxedo inspired t-shirt that I wore last week in Basic Black.  It is a sign of a good purchase when I not only immediately wear it, but style it multiple ways right away.  The top also comes in navy.  I am definitely mad for plaid and added my favorite plaid flats, plaid pouch, Ryan sunglasses and cashmere cardigan – all from J. Crew.

Keeping Warm in the Butler’s Pantry

Bring on the cold!  I recently featured the J. Crew for NET-A-PORTER capsule collection in All of the Stripes.  At the time I thought this amazing striped faux fur coat in my favorite blue and white was sold out.  I was so excited to pick it up at J. Crew at The Grove recently.  I have been wearing it around our LA home every evening when the temperature dips into the 60s. I must convince my husband to visit his family on the East Coast for the holidays so that I can enjoy the gorgeous coat for more than an hour at a time.  Regardless, I will be grateful for the fake snow at The Grove during the holidays.

My husband and son are more into fashion than most, but are sometimes bored with my photo shoots and five day a week blog posts.  Yet when I brought home both the faux fur scarf (featured in All of the Stripes) and now the faux fur coat they each wanted their turn.

Who wore it best?

The coat is still available in each size at press time on NET-A-PORTER.  If you live in a colder climate, this is a no brainier.  I also have lots of ideas for wear on the West Coast.
