This is one of my all time favorite shirts from J. Crew. Of course, it is in my favorite navy blue. I love the daisies. It is currently on sale. I styled it with my favorite white jeans and striped shoes (also on sale).
J. Crew Liberty shirts are hard for me to resist as a I mentioned a few weeks ago in this post. I love this blue one that just came out last week. It is not my usual navy for a change and I love it with lavender. The print pairs nicely with some flats from last year, but I have linked a current style that I think will also look great. I get a lot of wear out of my J. Crew Rhodes white linen blazer.
There is nothing like a rainbow to brighten your day. J. Crew included several pieces in candy stripe in the latest roll out. I love the featherweight cashmere twinset. I am wearing the shell with my favorite white jeans and chambray blazer. The featherweight is perfect for summer and I love wearing a rainbow of color. The whole collection is going fast, so do not hesitate.
In High School I was definitely preppy. I loved stripes, solids and, of course, Liberty prints (as I mentioned in this post). For a time, I worked as a hostess at the Chart House and had to wear a Hawaiian print dress. The uniform choice was not my favorite and I remember being horrified if I had to go somewhere before or after work. It turned me off of tropical prints all together. Leave it to J. Crew to take a tropical print give it a few stripes and make it modern. This top is currently on sale along with my favorite striped flats.
I recently had lunch with a friend on the last day of her maternity leave. We headed to Gjelina in Venice Beach. Of course, I still brought my preppy Gingham vibe to the scene. The menu at Gjelina is so amazing, you really can’t go wrong. We had several raw fish dishes that were out of this world and even splurged on a cobbler for dessert. It is the perfect menu to share several dishes. We arrived early and by the time we left it was very busy. It is definitely a later lunch crowd. It was fun to walk around Venice and shop after.
To keep my basics from being too boring, my go to neutral shoes are my leopard flats. They are currently on sale at J. Crew. I like them so much, I bought a second pair for when I inevitably wear them out (the sign of a good shoe purchase).
We are having a cool spell in Southern California. The fog made me grab my cozy black cashmere cardigan and favorite neutral flats.
I have always loved leopard print since I can remember. I first introduced it in my wardrobe a long time ago with some great sandals, then a belt, then a velvet leopard print bikini and then many other items. I do not own many plain black shoes. I think leopard can almost always replace black and add a little something. Shoes are also a fun place to play with pattern and color.
This week I have been loving neutral colors. I have been wearing my leopard print flats on repeat and we all know they are a neutral. Olive & June, where I get my nails done each week, has started a monthly color crush. I decided to give this month’s color a try. It is not a color I would have chosen from seeing it in the bottle, but it is a great neutral that is perfect for Spring.
The manicure is by Olive & June. The color is “Do You Take Lei Away” by OPI Products.
Yesterday’s post was about the shoes that were the inspiration for The Navy Leopard. I’m still wearing them almost two years later. I was happy to have them with me on our recent anniversary getaway to Santa Barbara that I wrote about in this post. We ended up walking a lot. It was also very windy, so I paired them with this this gingham cashmere twinset from J.Crew. They are a great option if you want to be comfortable, but want something more stylish than the shoes you wear for exercise.
The purchase of these Adidas by Stella McCartney navy leopard shoes was the seed for this blog. I bought them on our first trip out of the country and away from our son in the fall of 2014. We went to Paris for my sixth time and my husband’s first trip there. They replaced the walking shoes I had brought that turned out to be less comfortable than I anticipated. Additionally, you can’t just wear any old pair of shoes in Paris.

At the time I thought about all the adventures I would have in my navy leopard shoes and that it would be a fun name for a blog. Almost two years later, The Navy Leopard was born.
The shoes are very comfortable and are one of my favorite pairs. They are sold out, but here is a similar style that I think would mix just as well with other patterns and solids.
From the time I can remember my earliest memory, I wanted to be a mother. I thought about what my kids would be like, where I would live and taking them to school. I pictured at least three to four kids. I did not waver from this. I wanted a career as well and wanted to establish that first and then juggle it all. I carefully watched others in the workplace do their juggling act and had concerns about how it would be done and where the sacrifices would be made.
I took me a long time to find my husband and along the way I had multiple careers. We had our son later in life and it was not easy to get pregnant. I feel so grateful that I am now a mother and also know that Mother’s Day is a tough day for a lot of people. My third date with my husband was the night before Mother’s Day, ten years ago. He had lost his mother twelve years before that. It was a hard day for him. For many years it was hard for me too, waiting for my turn and wondering when and if it would happen.
I feel honored and lucky to be the mother of my incredible son. He constantly surprises me with his old soul knowledge and then follows it up with silly Kindergarten antics. He and my husband planned a very special day for me that included a drive to Santa Barbara and a lovely brunch at The Stonehouse at San Ysidro Ranch. We had recently celebrated our Anniversary with an amazing meal at their other restaurant Plow and Angel . My husband had the brilliant idea to do a day trip for their Mother’s Day Brunch. It was flawless.
