Mani Monday – Cactus Edition

This week I knew I wanted a neutral salmon color (I even got it on my toes).  The cactus idea seemed original and then all of a sudden I saw them everywhere, including a great one on the most amazing hike and prints on clothes, etc.  That made taking photos fun and also made me realize how ideas don’t always hit you over the head.  They can be all around you seeping into to your subconscious.  It was a good reminder to just pay attention and listen.

The manicure and nail art are by Olive & June.  The main color is “Salmon Run” by CND Vinylux.  the art was done with “Good Grief” by OPI, “Going Incognito” by Essie, and “Sun Bleached”by CND Vinylux.

Happy Monday!

Pink Lady

My love of liberty prints is well documented.  When I saw this lady jacket from J. Crew with Liberty print trim, I had to have it. I styled it with a striped ruffled shirt, signet bag (with pom-pom), white jeans and denim pom-pom flats.

You can see more of my Liberty print looks in these posts starting with my collection and introduction to them in London: May Liberty Flowers, Santa Barbara Mother’s Day, Liberty and Lavender, Denim on Denim, East River Sailing Club, Fiddlehead Farm, Stripes and Liberty, Paisley Liberty, and  Pink Liberty.

Painting Outside the Lines

My son and I often color together.  I enjoy it. I find it relaxing. I am quite orderly about it; I am a ‘draw inside the lines’ kinda gal. So, when J. Crew launched the limited edition paint splatter collection I was not sure it was for me.    While I fell in love with the jeans that I featured last week in The Maine Event;  they have quickly become one of my go-to favorites.  This striped shirt has also been a staple.  There is something very liberating about the paint splatter and it is a fun contrast to my more buttoned-up look.

I styled it with my J. Crew Lookout high-rise jeans, Prada driving shoes and Goyard bag.

You can see the whole J. Crew paint splatter collection here.  It is limited edition and only available online and in a smattering of select  stores.  The collection is worth a second look. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll even color outside of the lines….

Holy Matcha!

I was in San Diego last weekend and I had to check out the newest matcha bar, Holy Matcha, that just opened in North Park.  They have the most beautiful rose photo wall and decor.  The menu is perfectly curated with a just few items and everything is gluten-free and vegan.

Since I knew the decor was going to be amazing and there would be plenty of photo opportunties, I kept my look simple with a pop of pink.  I am wearing a bell-sleeved silk blouse, Signet bag in fuchsia bloom, lookout high-rise jeans and leopard Gemma flats, all from J. Crew.

Golden State

Just when I think I have my fill of t-shirts, J. Crew launches a new batch of destination art t-shirts.  How could I resist the California t-shirt?  California is home.  I have lived in California the longest, despite two stints on the East Coast and one in Chicago.  My New York City born and bred husband is not leaving California anytime soon.

I styled my golden state t-shirt with a gold pouch and gold and salt kicks.  I rounded things out with a navy blazer and Piper sunglasses in Ocean Blue  – all from J. Crew.

For other Destination Art t-shirts looks take a look at these posts: Beautiful Waste of Time, Dreaming of Paris, London Calling, New York State of Mind, Sliding Doors, I’ll take Paris and the Vineyard, and New York on the Vineyard.

Dreaming of Paris

As my son and I research our trip to London in 2017, I am scheming how we can get to Paris for a few days, too.  As Audrey Hepburn said, “Paris is always a good idea.”

Like Audrey, I also believe in pink.  I styled my  pink Velvet Blazer, with my Paris T-shirt, pink Jane sunglasses, glitter heels and a pink (monogrammed) wallet all from J. Crew.   I added a pink Hermes scarf in keeping with the Paris theme and AG Jeans.

London Calling

I have had London on my mind since I got this t-shirt.  We may even skip a tropical Spring Break this year and head to London.  My first trip abroad was to London in High School.  The dollar and the pound were close to even, the weather was warm for February and it was a great trip.  My six  year old is very excited about the prospect, so we will see…

In the meantime, the J. Crew destination art t-shirts are fun to style and the London version is no exception.  I have previously styled the New York version in New York State of Mind and New York on the Vineyard, as well as the Paris version in I’ll take Paris and the Vineyard and Cheers to the long weekend!.

I made this one festive with my plaid shoes from last year and a plaid pouch from this year.

Zebras and Tigers, Oh My!

This stunning mural “Catnap” by Michael Summers is the perfect backdrop for my new J. Crew Zebra top.  Summers says the design was inspired by the quote from American theologian Reinhold Neibuhr, “Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender what you are for what you may become.”

I styled the top with my favorite lace pants, pink sunglasses, velvet clutch and glitter pumps, all from J. Crew.  The shoes and top were previously sold out.  As of press time, both are available in several sizes.  Grab them while you can…

Antwerp Memories and Pink Cherries

Shoes can tell the story of your life.  They have walked with you through your experiences.  In my case, I often buy them on vacation and then remember the trip when I put them on.  The shoes in this outfit were purchased in 2005 in Antwerp, Belgium.

My friend and I had traveled to Brussels, Belgium for another friend’s wedding.  On the day of the wedding, we had enough time for a day trip. We were deciding between Bruges and Antwerp.  My friend is a fan of diamonds, so Antwerp it was.  We arrived after a short train ride and enjoyed the sights.  We stumbled upon a shoe store that had Prada driving shoes arranged in a circle in every color you can imagine.  They reminded me of the Cole Hahn loafers I craved in High School that came in a rainbow of colors.  I chose this hot pink and my friend chose a pretty beige suede.  We were both so excited with our selections. The dollar was favorable enough at the time that they were also a good value.

We each went to pay and my card was declined. The same thing had happened to me the summer before on another trip to Europe.  The fraud detection team was overly zealous and had shut me down.  This time I had called my credit card company to let them know ahead of time where I would be visiting. I was furious.  I decided it just was not meant to be.  My friend insisted on buying my shoes and I would pay her back. She simply would not take no for an answer.  Once I returned to the hotel in Brussles,  I called and got the credit card straightened out.

The shoes are still in great shape.   I still wear them eleven years later which is amazing considering they are driving shoes with out a full sole. Every time I wear them or see the box in my closet, I think of the kindness of my friend and that trip.

I styled them with a fun J. Crew top in a cherry print, my favorite pink  J. Crew sunglasses, dark denim and a pink cardigan.  Between the color, the cherries, and the memories of Antwerp,  I can’t help but feel cheery.  The shoes are long since sold out, but I’ve linked two fun hot pink styles below.

Fall Colors in Santa Barbara

This summer we visited the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.  It is so well put together with great interactive exhibits for kids.  I highly recommend it.  My son loved it and we visited two weeks in a row.  I also loved the adobe building, so on our second visit I took advantage and shot this fall look.
