Peace, Love and a Bag that Does Good

A bag that is stylish and does good?  One of each, please.  GAIA (which refers to the Goddess of the Earth in Greek Mythology) was founded in 2009.  They create handcrafted accessories by female refugee artisans.  This gingham pom-pom bag was inspired by Moroccan pouches.  Each pom-pom is handmade.  It comes with a hand signed hang tag and is available in three colors.   I also picked up the pom-pom hair tie.  Check out the tassel earrings as well.  You can read about how Jenna Lyons first learned about GAIA and how the bags, hair ties and tassel earrings ended up in the in J. I styled the bag with a dress that is the same cut as my favorite from last year with a lace -up neckline  instead of a collar.  Take a look at how I styled last year’s dresses in: Chambray, Sunset and Sequins, Coral and stripes, and One-Step Gingham.

Mani Monday – Giraffe Edition

I am frequently asked where I come up with my nail art ideas.  Some weeks I know exactly what I want and it’s tied to an event or holiday.  Sometimes I am inspired by nail art that I see on Instagram.  More often I am inspired by fashion and what am wearing that day.  It is always a collaboration with the talented staff at Olive & June.  This Drake’s for J. Crew shirt (that I recently scored on super sale) served as inspiration this week. Besides, it was another chance to wear my favorite navy polish by Chanel.

The manicure and nail art are by Olive & June.  The colors are “Mariniere” by Chanel, “Salmon Run” by CND Vinylux and “Alpine Snow” by OPI.

Bohemian Prep

A love a good mix of classic preppy with a softer bohemian edge.  My new favorite Legend of Lido clutch has the perfect pop of pink with my pink gingham shirt.  I styled them with my new Vintage Crop jeans (I can not stop wearing them) and my hot pink driving shoes that I picked up in Antwerp in 2005 (that story here).

Memories of Plaid

“Jenni look!”

“What?”

“These plaid pants are perfect for you.  They are so preppy.”

“They look tiny.  What size are they?”

“Just try them on”.

“I love them I have to have them.  It is weird to buy something someone else wore?”

“They are vintage and cool and one of kind”.

I wore my plaid pants everywhere.  They embodied my preppy style.

When I saw this pair at J. Crew I could not help but smile and think of all the fun I had in the  first pair.  They were followed by madras shorts that I also wore over and over.  The color of these also reminds me of the “Preppy Handbook”, which was my bible.

It was fun to style these with chambray, gold espadrilles and stripes.  I felt like a teenager again, only this time, a more daring one.  I never would have put the stripes together with madras in the 80s.  There are benefits to getting older.

Mani Monday – Watermelon Edition

Refreshing watermelon. Picnics. BBQs.  Parades.  Swimming.  Long days.  I can’t wait for my favorite season. It’s been a bit chilly in Los Angeles of late, but I’ve got summer on my hands.

Santa Barbara Stripes

For our anniversary dinner last week in Santa Barbara I wore heels and a silk blouse, but for walking around during the day it was all about comfort.  My favorite AG Jeans, New Balance sneakers and of course, a striped tee.  This one was customized on National Stripes Day at J. Crew.  My seven year old selected the patches and placement.

May Flowers

Bring on the May Poles, flowers,  and Mother’s Day.  May is such a promising month with the longer days, but it is also so busy.  As the school year is coming to an end there is so much going on.

My love of Liberty prints is well documented.  I initially bought this print in the shirt and then decided I have enough shirts.  Then I saw this blazer (which is currently on sale and available in lots of sizes) and I thought it was a fun new way to wear the print.  I love the ruffle detail.

I wore it for Easter and styled it with white jeans, a white linen t-shirt and leopard print accessories.

Sailing through Santa Barbara

My husband and I celebrated our ninth wedding anniversary earlier this week.  We got away for one night to Santa Barbara where we were engaged and married.  We had perfect weather just like we did nine years ago.

I styled my “Hello, Sailor” Tee (a gift from J. Crew for National Stripes Day), with slim boyfriend jeans, Piper Sunglasses, New Balance kicks and a striped clutch.
