The countdown is on for our family vacation on the East Coast later this summer. I am looking forward to beach days with the kids and easy evening one step summer dressing with dresses. I featured this dress in gingham in this post. Here it is in coral. It is so comfortable, but crisp and polished with the shirting details.
About a month ago I wrote about my Grandmother B in this post. June is her birthday month (and mine), so I have been thinking about her a lot. I decided to style the J. Crew Save the Bees t-shirt again with some Gingham. It has been very cool and foggy, so the layers made sense and wearing bees makes me feel connected to her.
I can never have enough denim. I love this Western Shirt from J. Crew and I love pairing denim in different washes. My jeans are AG in 360 Contour. They are so incredibly comfortable. As the name suggests they stretch in all directions and completely keep their shape. I have them in the Prima which has a slightly higher rise. I added a new J. Crew necklace in my favorite navy and my J. Crew liberty flats to add a little pop of color.
I love dresses for summer. They are so easy, one step and you are dressed and yet you also feel more dressed up. There is nothing better to beat the heat. I have this J. Crew dress in navy from last year and also coral from this year. I was so excited to see it in Gingham. The shoes are super comfortable and are on sale.
Note: this dress, like the Candy Stripe Cashmere Shell from this post and Liberty Blouse from this post, keeps selling out and then they are each often replenished the next day. So don’t be discouraged by seeing sold out at first. I recommend trying the link in the morning for the most inventory.
This pattern mix is pretty tame for me in my favorite navy and white. The skirt is so easy to wear. I know I will use the clutch all summer long. The blouse, skirt, and clutch are all on sale at J. Crew. The shoes are sold out, but I have linked another option.
This is one of my all time favorite shirts from J. Crew. Of course, it is in my favorite navy blue. I love the daisies. It is currently on sale. I styled it with my favorite white jeans and striped shoes (also on sale).
In High School I was definitely preppy. I loved stripes, solids and, of course, Liberty prints (as I mentioned in this post). For a time, I worked as a hostess at the Chart House and had to wear a Hawaiian print dress. The uniform choice was not my favorite and I remember being horrified if I had to go somewhere before or after work. It turned me off of tropical prints all together. Leave it to J. Crew to take a tropical print give it a few stripes and make it modern. This top is currently on sale along with my favorite striped flats.
To keep my basics from being too boring, my go to neutral shoes are my leopard flats. They are currently on sale at J. Crew. I like them so much, I bought a second pair for when I inevitably wear them out (the sign of a good shoe purchase).
We are having a cool spell in Southern California. The fog made me grab my cozy black cashmere cardigan and favorite neutral flats.
I have always loved leopard print since I can remember. I first introduced it in my wardrobe a long time ago with some great sandals, then a belt, then a velvet leopard print bikini and then many other items. I do not own many plain black shoes. I think leopard can almost always replace black and add a little something. Shoes are also a fun place to play with pattern and color.
My husband and I celebrated our eighth wedding anniversary last week. We were married at the Santa Barbara Courthouse on a day and time chosen by a vedic astrologer (as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago in this post). We had our reception a few months later where I grew up. It was the best of both worlds, something simple with little fuss and a great party to follow.

On our first anniversary we returned to Santa Barbara and planned to do it each year.

The next year to we went to Santa Barbara in April with our newborn son.

Then life got in the way. We lost my husband’s father the day after our third anniversary. Two years ago we moved into a house we built. This year, we felt we needed to connect to that time and place. We manged to get away on the actual day.
It made us realize how important couple time is and how important it is to get away and unplug (as much as possible). We were only there for twenty-six hours and we enjoyed every minute. It brought us back to the essence of why we are together which is easy to forget in the day to day.
J. Crew recently issued a challenge to wear gingham for a week on their instagram. Here are Jenna Lyon’s five amazing looks. My husband and I returned from a rare night away from our son to find a Peppa Pig in our bed. (I recently won Peppa playing a carnival game at Legoland California). Here is one of my gingham looks from last week, inspired by Peppa.
